Living in Zurich
Zurich is a thriving small metropolis in the heart of Europe. With about 370,000 inhabitants - nearly one million if you include the urban agglomeration – Zurich is both Switzerland's largest city and its most important cultural and economic centre. Zurich also has Switzerland's highest student population, with about 50,000 students studying at institutions of higher education.
The canton of Zurich, one of Switzerland's 26 cantons, is home to over a million inhabitants. A large part of the region is located in the hilly plateau surrounding the city of Zurich, but to the east of the canton there are also rural areas with higher hills and seven lakes with particularly good water quality.
